Factors Affecting the Coating Amount of Plaster Coating Machines

The angle between the blade and the tangent line of the patterned roller is generally between 15° and 30°. If the angle is too large, the blade will almost press against the patterned roller, and since the surface of the patterned roller is not smooth, it can cause vibrations or bouncing of the elastic blade when it rotates at high speed. This results in the solution being splashed, leading to uneven coating and significant differences in coating amounts. Additionally, a larger angle can also easily damage the blade edge.

The coating amount of the patch coating machine is affected by the following factors:

1) The scraper-type hot melt adhesive coating machine currently uses stainless steel blades for the scraper that scrapes the glue from the roller. During coating, the pressure of the scraper on the roller is too low. If there are impurities, the scraper will lift, creating gaps that lead to uneven coating and increased coating amount. Experimental results show that the factors affecting the scraper pressure include: the hardness of the blade and the scraping angle. In practice, the scraper should be adjusted with a pressure hammer, and the scraper pressure is generally between 200~400 kpa.

(2) The angle between the scraper blade and the tangent of the roller is usually between 15~30°. If the angle is too large, the scraper approaches the top of the roller, and the surface of the roller is not smooth. During high-speed operation, this causes vibrations or bouncing of the elastic scraper, causing the solution to splash out, resulting in uneven coating and significant differences in coating amount. Additionally, a large angle can easily damage the blade.

(3) The sharpness of the scraper mainly depends on the wear angle of the blade, the purity of the solution, and the material of the blade. If it is a new blade, an appropriate sharpness should effectively scrape off the glue layer on the patterned roller without producing blade fibers. Moderate sharpness can effectively remove the glue layer, making the coating uniform and consistent, with a larger fluctuation.

(4) The flatness of the scraper requires that the scraper be flat without warping or deformation, ensuring uniform and consistent coating amount; otherwise, there will be a large error in coating amount. The flatness of the scraper depends on the installation method of the scraper. Of course, impurities on the blade holder groove or blade may also occur. Therefore, when installing the blade, the backing should be cleaned first, then the new blade should be placed at the back and inserted into the groove. The rotary blade back screws should be tightened first from the middle of the blade, then gradually tightened on both sides, alternating tightening on both sides. To prevent bending of the blade, the screws should be tightened two to three times. Use a cloth to clamp the blade and backing, then tighten the screws forcefully to one side. In this way, the combined scraper is relatively flat, ensuring uniform coating.

(5) The left and right movement of the scraper plays an important role in improving the utilization of the scraper and reducing the wear of the scraper on the roller. Considering this situation, the wall of the mesh is less worn, the mesh holes are deeper, and there is more fluid, which is conducive to meeting the required coating quantity. The left and right movement of the scraper can effectively prevent the formation of water lines, making the coating more uniform across the width of the substrate.
